If you missed out on the Houston Beer Festival, you had another great opportunity to enjoy a hot Texas day in Galveston at the Texas Tequila and Margarita Festival hosted at the Moody Gardens Hotel Spa and Convention Center. We first began our drinking journey at the Tour De Tequila where we went about tasting an array of different makes of tequila.
Some of the brands that we sampled were Herradura, El Jimador, Dulce Vida, and Diva Tequila just to name a few. Each Brand brought in their different take of tequila Blanco, Añejo, and Reposado. Food pairings were also made available by Chef Jason Kerr of Lowbrow and Chef Kevin Bryant of Eleven: XI.
Following the tequila sampling was the Margarita Grand Tasting presented by Casa Sauza. Being set up in a bigger exhibition room at Moody Gardens Hotel Spa and Convention Center, it was easily four times the crowd. Different restaurants came out to see who had the best margaritas around town. Some of the few that stood out to us were the cucumber infused margaritas from Lowbrow– having the kick of a margarita, with the refreshing taste of the cucumber.
Another that got our attention was from Rudy’s Grill & Cantina Mexican Restaurant. This family owned restaurant located in Cypress, TX had one of the tastiest margaritas along with a warm family feel that had us taking a quick break to chit-chat with the owners.
Last but not least, we somehow managed to make our way outside to finish our evening with a few cold beers while the live band complemented the feel of the nice, cool breeze while doing the conga into the sunset. Needless to say this festival was just like Texas; BIG. See ya again next year!
